In today’s article, I’m going to compare two really cool reverb pedals – Walrus Audio Slo vs Walrus Audio Fathom. Both of these effects tend to be really popular among the guitarists, but which one of them is actually better? Well, it all depends on your personal needs.
The truth is that that Slo and Fathom pedals are not the same. Walrus Audio Slo offers an experimental and spacey reverb tone, while the Fathom has a bit more basic and traditional tone.
Let’s dive deeper with research to find out what exactly makes these pedals so good and popular. We’ll have a close look on each one of them to see what they can offer. Of course, there will be a few sound demos included too, so you’ll be able to hear the difference and decide which one is better for you.
Walrus Audio Slo – Specs & Pricing
Walrus Audio Slö Multi Texture Reverb is a pedal designed for the most demanding guitarists out there. This is not just an another reverb effect – it’s an amazing ambient machine. It’s perfect for creating lush and sleepy soundscapes!
The pedal features a durable construction and it’s really to use. Walrus Audio equipped this pedal with 5 different knobs (Decay, Filter, Mix, X, Depth) and a single switch that controls the reverb modes and modulation waves.
As you can imagine, the versatility of that reverb pedal is absolutely amazing. Whether you want to create some dreamy, ethereal soundscapes or a bit more experimental, dark tones – this pedal will be perfect for you.
When it comes to pricing, it’s not that cheap. At the same time, considering how versatile and great sounding it actually is, it’s definitely worth the money. Surely, all fans of shoegaze, dream pop and indie music will appreciate the quality of Walrus Audio Slo.
Here’s the sound demo – feel free to check it out.
Walrus Audio Fathom – Specs & Pricing
Walrus Audio Fathom is a multi-function reverb effect which is also really popular among both amateur and more professional players. In comparison with Walrus Audio Slo, this pedal is not as dreamy and ethereal.
The pedal features a pretty much the same construction as the Slo – it has five individual controls (Decay, Dampen, Mix, X, Program) and a single switch in the middle. As you can imagine, the amount of different tones that you can achieve with that effect is also really big!
Who is it for? Well, the Fathom will be ideal for anyone who’s searching for a more traditional and more functional reverb pedal. In fact, you can easily use Fathom’s hall or plate reverb in pretty much any genre of music.
When it comes to pricing, it’s available at the same price as Walrus Audio Slo. Again, it’s not a cheap pedal, but it’s definitely worth the money. It will be really tough to find a better and more versatile traditional reverb effect at this price level.

Walrus Audio Slo vs Walrus Audio Fathom
Based on these two sound demos shared above, it is pretty clear that these two pedals are not the same. Who will benefit from using them? Well, here’s what I think.
Walrus Audio Slo is perfect for all guitarists who want to explore new, unknown and dreamy guitar tones. This effect is perfect for anyone who’s into dream pop, indie, alternative rock, ambient and psychedelic music.
On the other hand, Walrus Audio Fathom is perfect for all musicians who are looking for a more traditional type of reverb (such as hall or plate reverb). This is also a really versatile and great sounding pedal, but in comparison with the Slo, it’s a bit more basic.
Which One Would I Choose?
I have to admit that I’m a big fan of both of these pedals. They sound awesome!
But for me, the Walrus Audio Slo is a winner. There’s something really cool about these dreamy and psychedelic reverb sounds.
Of course, this is only my subjective opinion. Like I said before, I’m sure that you’ll benefit from adding either of these two pedals to your collection.
Are There Any Alternatives?
If you don’t like the sound of Walrus Audio Slo and Walrus Audio Fathom or you can’t afford getting these pedals, don’t worry! There’s still quite a few really good alternative options out there. Of course, it all depends on what you’re looking for and how much are you willing to spend.
Here’s a few more reverb effects that also deserve a lot of attention.
Firstly, I highly encourage you to check out the Fender Marine Layer Reverb. This is a pretty affordable and great sounding effect suitable for the most demanding guitarists. I added it to my pedalboard a long time ago and it’s still one of my favorite reverb effects of all time. Great tone, high versatility and a relatively low price – who needs anything else?
Alternatively, you can also check out the TC Electronic Skysurfer Reverb. This pedal is not as versatile as the pedals by Walrus, but it’s definitely way cheaper. In my opinion, this is one of the best budget reverb pedals available on the market right now. That’s why I highly recommend checking it out!
Additionally, you can also check out my article about 8 Best Reverb Pedals Under $100. Of course, it will be tough to beat the quality of the Slo and Fathom pedals, but there’s still quite a few really good effects on that list.
