In today’s in-depth review, I’m going to compare two of the coolest chorus pedals available on the market right now – Walrus Audio Julia vs Walrus Audio Julianna. Both of these effects offer a great quality, but which one of them is actually better?

The truth is that the older effect – Walrus Audio Julia – already offers an access to a huge amount of chorus tones. The newer Julianna has a few more features, but it’s a bit more expensive, so it’s up to you whether you’re willing to spend that additional money or not.

Let’s dive deeper with research to find out what exactly differentiates these two great chorus pedals. Of course, the sound demos will be included too, so you’ll be able to hear how they sound. Hopefully, this guide will help you to figure out which one of them is better for you.

Walrus Audio Julia – Specs & Pricing

Walrus Audio Julia vs Julianna

Walrus Audio Julia is one of the most popular chorus pedals available on today’s market. There are two versions of that model – V1 and V2. They sound pretty much the same, but the V2 offers a bit better looking graphic.

What makes this pedal so good? Well, it gives you an access to an indefinite amount of chorus tones. Whether you like that classic ’80s chorus or a bit more experimental vibrato sound effect, the Walrus Julia is the way to go. It offers a selection of sounds which is not that easy to find in other chorus effects.

It is also worth mentioning that the Julia is also really easy to use. It has a simple, durable construction with four knobs: Rate, Depth, Lag and D-C-V. There’s also a switch that allows you to choose the waveform – either sine or triangle LFO.

When it comes to pricing, it’s not that cheap. But on the other hand, it’s cheaper than Julianna. Considering how versatile and good sounding this effect actually is, it’s definitely worth the money.

Overall, this is a fantastic pedal. I have to admit that I added it to my pedalboard quite a while ago and it quickly became one of my favorites. Honestly, there are a lot of good chorus pedals out there, but Julia really stands out from the competitors.

Walrus Audio Julianna – Specs & Pricing

Walrus Audio Julia vs Julianna

Walrus Audio Julianna is an another great chorus made by the same manufacturer. In fact, the company refers to Julianna as ‘the big sister’ of famous Julia.

This particular pedal looks and sounds really similar to the Julia V2 effect. It has a bit different graphic, but it features the same aesthetic and the same colors. However, Julianna is also packed with a few additional functions.

The main things that differentiate Walrus Julianna from Walrus Julia is the tap tempo control, time-divided tempo selector and an additional wave shape option that modulates the pitch of your signal. It also adds the stereo capabilities.

When it comes to pricing, Julianna is a bit more expensive than Julia. It’s totally understandable though – in the end, it has a few functions that are not available in the older Julia V2 model.

Overall, this is an another fantastic chorus pedal made by Walrus Audio. It’s expensive, but it’s worth the money. The new features will be particularly loved by guitarists who are looking for the stereo sounds and the tap tempo control.

Walrus Audio Julia vs Julianna – My Verdict

Personally, I think that both of these pedals are amazing and they’re definitely worth the money. Considering the fact that Julianna has a few new features, it seems to be a bit better and more versatile effect.

On the other hand, Walrus Audio Julia already has everything that you need from a chorus pedal. The additional features from Julianna are really good, but to be honest, they’re not that necessary.

That’s why I decided to keep the Walrus Audio Julia V2 in my pedalboard and I don’t feel the need to switch it for Julianna. If you’re in the same situation as me and you already have the Julia, you can keep it with you.

But if you don’t have any of these pedals yet and you’re okay with spending a bit more money to get the Julianna, you should definitely get it. The truth is that it all depends on your budget.

Disadvantages Of These Pedals

It’s really difficult to find any major disadvantages of Walrus Julia and Julianna. As I said before, these are one of the best chorus pedals available on the market right now!

The only con of these effects is the price, which is relatively high. On the other hand, considering how good sounding and versatile these pedals are, they’re definitely worth every cent.

Additionally, there’s also one small thing that may annoy you – both Julia and Julianna have a small flashing light on the bottom left. You can turn it off, so it just keeps flashing. This is not a big problem, but after a while it tends to be quite annoying.

But overall, the advantages of these pedals outweigh the disadvantages. Well done Walrus Audio, you created something really amazing!

Are There Any Alternatives?

If you don’t like the sound of these two chorus pedals or you simply can’t afford them, that’s totally fine! The market is full of other really good and affordable chorus pedals. Nevertheless, it all depends on how much are you willing to spend.
