Specs & Pricing

VOX AC30S1 review

VOX AC30S1 is a high quality tube combo suitable for the most demanding guitarists out there. Although it has only one channel, it gives you access to the inimitable, jangly British tone.

The amp features 30 Watts of power, a 12″ Celestion speaker voiced specifically for this model, a built-in digital reverb and a 2-band EQ. Of course, the combo is also equipped with some high quality tubes – two 12AX7 preamp tubes and four EL84 power tubes.

This particular model also features the touch-sensitive Top Boost-inspired circuit which gives you access to a lot of different guitar tones. Whether you like the crystal clean tone, a subtle overdrive or a punchy distortion, this extremely versatile combo won’t let you down.

It is also worth mentioning that the AC30S1 looks fantastic from the outside as well. It has the iconic VOX design made of black tolex. Surely, lovers of vintage amps will appreciate the aesthetic of that model.

When it comes to pricing, let’s be honest – it’s not the cheapest tube amp in the world. But if you’re okay with that, you’ll be extremely satisfied if you decide to add it to your gear collection!

Here’s the sound demo.

Who Is It For?

VOX AC30S1 can be efficiently used by both amateur and more intermediate guitar players. No matter how advanced you are, you will definitely appreciate the high quality of that tube combo.

As I mentioned before, this is a really versatile piece of gear. Whether you’re into blues, rock, country or even metal, this metal won’t disappoint you. It’s amazing that this amp works well in so many different genres of music. It also takes pedals very well, so it’s perfect for everyone who likes experimenting with their tone.

Due to the fact that this is a pretty expensive amp, it’s mainly used by professional guitarists and working musicians. The AC30S1 is perfect for live gigs, but it can also work well in a studio environment. If you’re looking for a reliable amp for your home studio, this is the way to go.

Overall, AC30S1 is one of the best tube amps available on the market right now. The vast majority of guitarists will immediately fall in love with it. That’s why I highly recommend checking it out!

Are There Any Disadvantages?

It’s really difficult to find any major disadvantages of VOX AC30S1 – it’s really well made, so it’s unlikely that you’re going to experience any factory flaws.

The main disadvantage of this model is the price – it tends to be quite high. Nevertheless, the high price is caused by the quality, so in the end it’s all really understandable. Surely, the AC30S1 is worth the money.

Bear in mind that this is a powerful amp and it sounds best at high volumes. As a result, it’s not ideal for quiet practicing.

Are There Any Alternatives?

If you don’t like the sound of VOX AC30S1 or you simply can’t afford it yet, don’t worry! There’s still quite a few really good tube combos out there. Of course, it all depends on what you’re searching for and how much are you willing to spend.

Here’s a few other affordable amps that also deserve a lot of attention.

alternative amps

Firstly, I highly encourage you to check out Peavey Classic 30. In my opinion, it’s one of the coolest and most affordable tube amps available on the market. It’s not as expensive as some of the Fender, Marshall and VOX amps and it still sounds absolutely amazing. If you’re frequently gigging with your band, this is the way to go.

Alternatively, you can also check out Bugera V22 Infinium. This is an another underrated brand which manufactures reliable, efficient and affordable guitar amps. In my opinion, it’s a great alternative option for those who can’t afford getting the legendary VOX AC30S1.

If you’re on a really tight budget and you’re searching for a small combo to practice with at home, make sure to check out Fender Champion 20. It’s not a tube amp, but it still sounds really good. Considering how cheap and great sounding it is, it’s definitely worth checking out – especially if you’re a beginner!

But overall, the tone and versatility and VOX AC30S1 is truly inimitable. It will be really tough to beat that amp, so if you’re okay with spending that amount of money just to get it, I’m sure that you won’t be disappointed.
