Disadvantages Of Mini Precision Bass
Although Squier Mini Precision Bass is generally a fantastic budget instrument, it’s not the greatest bass guitar in the world. Honestly, there’s not much to complain about at this price level, but there’s a few things that you should be aware of.
Firstly, this guitar usually comes without a gig bag. If you’re planning on traveling or commuting with that guitar, you’ll have get it separately from somewhere else. This is not a big disadvantage, but for some guitar players it may be really relevant.
Additionally, the setup of cheap Squier guitars usually isn’t the best. There’s a rare chance that you may experience occasional fret buzz or your string action may be too high. It’s totally normal though – guitars at this price level aren’t the best in the world and it happens frequently.
Also, the original strings aren’t the best either. You will definitely benefit from replacing them with a new set. But of course, if it’s going to be your first bass guitar, you probably won’t even notice the difference!
Summing up, the main disadvantages of the Mini Precision Bass are:
- the gig bag is not included
- original setup isn’t always ideal
- the strings aren’t the best either
Nevertheless, the advantages of that bass guitar outweigh the disadvantages of that model. Considering how inexpensive and good sounding this guitar is, there’s not much to worry about. It’s a great piece of gear anyway!
Squier Mini Precision Bass vs Squier Bronco Bass
Many guitarists wonder whether they should choose the Mini Precision Bass or the Bronco Bass by Squier. The answer for that isn’t that simple, because it all depends on your own personal preferences.
In my opinion, both of these guitars are really good. The Mini Precision Bass has a slightly shorter scale length (28.6″), while the Bronco Bass has a bit longer scale length (30″). Still, even 30 inches is considered as short, so the difference is not that big.
Personally, I think that the Mini Precision Bass will be better for kids. Thanks to the shorter scale length, it will be easier to play. At the same time, Bronco Bass is an excellent choice for teenagers and adults.

Are There Any Alternatives?
If you don’t like the sound of Squier Mini Precision Bass and you’re positive that this bass is not made for you, that’s totally fine too! There’s still quite a lot of other good bass guitars out there. Of course, it all depends on how much are you willing to spend and what exactly you’re searching for.
Still, here’s a few more gear recommendations based on my own experience.
Firstly, if you’re looking for a great sounding and affordable bass guitar that offers a lot of versatility when it comes to tone, check out Ibanez Talman TMB100. This is not a short scale bass, but it’s totally worth the money. I had the pleasure to use it frequently in my home studio and it always did a fantastic job!
Alternatively, you can also check out the Squier Affinity Jaguar Bass. This particular model features a 32″ scale length, so it’s shorter than Ibanez TMB100, but it’s longer than Squier Mini Precision Bass. Just like all the instruments from the Affinity Series, it sounds awesome and it’s not overly expensive.
If your budget is a bit higher and you’re looking for something really cool, check out Squier Classic Vibe Jazz Bass. It’s a bit more expensive model, but it features a very unique oldschool vibe. It’s a perfect choice for anyone who loves vintage guitars!
