Squier Jazzmaster - one of the most popular beginners and intermediate guitars.
My Squier Jazzmaster

If you’re wondering whether Squier Jazzmaster is worth it or not, you’ll most likely enjoy today’s review. Since I’m a frequent user of this guitar, I figured it’d be great to share some of my thoughts with you. It’s a really popular instrument among beginners and advanced players, but is it actually good?

Absolutely! Squier Jazzmaster is one of the coolest and affordable offset guitars available on the market right now. Fender did an absolutely fantastic job with this model – it looks great, it sounds great and it doesn’t cost too much. This model will be perfect for people who are looking for a reliable piece of gear to play indie and alternative music.

Let’s dive deeper with research and find out what makes this guitar so special. I had this guitar for a few years now and although I had far more expensive guitars in my hands, the Squier Jazzmaster still remains one of my favorite guitars of all time.

Low Price, High Quality

That Squier model is very often recommended for beginners, but even for me this axe is absolutely KILLER. Seriously, I’ve seen guitars that were 3-4 times more expensive than this Squier and sounded way worse.

Fender released a few Jazzmaster models – a cheaper Affinity Series Jazzmaster and a bit more expensive Classic Vibe 60’s Jazzmaster. Both guitars are equally amazing, although I own the Affinity one. The main difference between these models is the bridge. The Classic Vibe model has a tremolo bridge, while Affinity one doesn’t have it.

I was extremely excited when I first got it and to be honest, the excitement is still here. Even after a few years. Important – don’t think that this is an inexpensive and cheap guitar for beginners. In my opinion, this musical instrument will be great for more advanced players too. But if you’re just starting, it’s probably the best guitar that you could possibly choose.

Additionally I’m just going to tell you how this guitar feels. This is one of the smoothest guitars that I ever played. The neck pickup sound, which is pretty bright, actually reminds me of a classic Stratocaster. I found zero factory flaws so at this price it was very surprising. Frets were polished and crowned really well. Hence, the guitar was ready to play comfortably straight out of the box.

As you can see, I’ve got the Arctic White color version, which looks really nice. These two humbuckers offer a lot of punch when you’re playing with a lot of gain, so it will be great for playing alternative rock or grunge tunes. Still, the guitars sound awesome on the clean channel as well.

The only thing that I don’t like about this guitar is the lack of a tremolo. If you’re into indie and surf rock, you probably know how important it is for these genres. But on the other hand, some guitars with tremolo tailpieces have problems with staying in tune. So I’m sure that a lot of people are going to enjoy that!

As you can see, in comparison with my arctic white Affinity Jazzmaster, this model features white pickups and a tremolo bridge. Personally, I really like that sunburst color. In addition, the guitar features a poplar body and back. The Alnico pickups and nickel-plated hardware definitely make this guitar sound really good.

If you’re into that classic, bright and vintage tone, you should definitely check this guitar out. Feel free to see the sound sample below. Sounds amazing, right?

Who is Squier Jazzmaster for?

As I mentioned earlier, I think that this guitar will be ideal for both amateurs and more advanced players. The guitar is really versatile and it can be used in a wide range of genres. Nevertheless, I highly recommend it to all indie and alternative rock players out there.

In addition, these guitars aren’t too expensive, so they should be within reach of any guitarist. If you’re on a tight budget, you should probably stick to the Affinity Series. But if you can afford it, the Classic Vibe Jazzmaster may be a better option for you – it gives you access to a wider range of tonal possibilities.

Summary

As you can see, Squier Jazzmaster is a really cool offset guitar. In my opinion, you won’t find anything better at this price level. Whether you choose the Affinity or Classic Vibe series, I guarantee that you won’t be disappointed. I had Affinity version for a few years now and honestly, it’s one of the best guitars that I had. Great choice for the money!
