Specs & Pricing

squier bronco bass guitar review

Squier Bronco Bass is a short scale (30″) bass guitar which looks and sounds absolutely fantastic. The guitar has a thin and lightweight solid body and a thin C-shaped neck, which makes it really comfortable to play.

What’s important, the manufacturer decided to equip this guitar with a single-coil Bronco Bass pickup which offers a really nice bass tone. Although this model has only one pickup, it’s still versatile and it can be used in a lot of different genres of music. The guitar is available in Black and Torino Red color versions.

When it comes to pricing, it’s totally affordable. In fact, this is one of the cheapest bass guitars offered by Squier! Although it’s inexpensive, it doesn’t mean that it features a bad quality. Of course, you can’t expect any wonders at this price level, but it’s still a great bass guitar.

Here’s the official sound demo – feel free to check it out below.

Who Is It For?

Squier Bronco Bass is made mainly for beginners and young guitarists who are just starting out their journey as bass players. Thanks to the short scale (30″), it’s really comfortable to play even for guitarists with shorter fingers.

As I mentioned earlier, this is also a really versatile guitar, so it can be efficiently used in a lot of different styles of music. Whether you’re into country, blues, rock or indie, this model won’t disappoint you. It also works very well for a lot of various techniques of playing.

It is also worth mentioning that this is a really cheap bass guitar, so it’s suitable for all the guitarists on a low budget. A lot of inexpensive guitars available on the market aren’t the best, but the Bronco Bass really stands out from its competitors. Great sound, classic look and a really low price – who needs anything else?

That’s why I have no hesitation in recommending this guitar to all guitarists who are searching for a cheap and reliable bass.

What about the cons?

Although Squier Bronco Bass is a great guitar, it has its own disadvantages as well. Don’t worry though – they aren’t too serious and they’re mostly related to your own personal preferences!

Firstly, this is a short scale bass, which means that the spaces between frets are a bit shorter. This is a great feature for young bassists or players with short fingers, but if your fingers are really long, you may find it uncomfortable.

In addition, you have to remember that it’s one of the cheapest bass guitars offered by this manufacturer. A lot of new Squier guitars need a full setup so there’s a pretty high chance that you’ll have to set it up properly in order to make it more playable. But the truth is that this problem exists in all low and mid-level guitars, so it’s not a serious issue.

Lastly, bear in mind that the Bronco Bass has only one single-coil pickup. It’s still enough for beginner guitarists, but if you’re looking for a bit more versatility, you should probably search for a bass with two pickups.

Nevertheless, Squier Bronco Bass is still an excellent choice for a lot of bass players. The truth is that it’s going to be really hard to beat that, especially at this price level. That’s why I highly recommend checking it out!

Are There Any Alternatives?

If you don’t like the Bronco model, there’s still a few interesting guitars that you can consider. Still, it all depends on what you’re looking for and what kind of music do you want to play. And of course, it all depends on your budget!

Ibanez TMB100
ibanez tmb100 - alternative to squier bronco bass

Ibanez TMB100 is an another really cool bass suitable for both beginners and more intermediate players. I bought this guitar a few years ago and I can totally recommend it to everyone who’s looking for a cheap and reliable bass. What’s interesting, this is actually one of the most popular cheap basses available on the market right now.

Although it’s a bit more expensive than the Bronco Bass, it’s even more versatile. Ibanez equipped this model with a DXP neck pickup and a DXJ bridge pickup and to be honest, both of them sound awesome!

What’s important, the TMB100 is also available in a few different color versions, so any guitarists will be able to find their favorite model. Overall, it looks fantastic from the outside and the quality of the finish is really good.

Squier Classic Vibe ’70s Jazz Bass
classic vibe jazz bass

Squier Classic Vibe ’70s Jazz Bass is an ideal choice for bass players who are searching for something even better than the Bronco Bass. This model is a bit more expensive, but it’s definitely worth it.

I have always been a big fan of the Classic Vibe Series by Squier. I reviewed a lot of guitars from these series on my YouTube channel and to be honest, all of them feature a great quality. In my opinion, this series of guitars can easily compete with the Fender Player Series which is made in Mexico.

Who is it for? Well, I think that Squier Classic Vibe Jazz Bass will be perfect for a bit more advanced bassists who want to play gigs or even record in a studio. At the same time, this is also an excellent guitar to start your musical journey on. That’s why I encourage you to check it out!

Here’s the sound demo.

Fender Player Jazz Bass
fender player jazz bass

Fender Player Jazz Bass is great guitar made specifically for a bit more advanced bass players. It’s the most expensive guitar on this short list, but in the end – it’s a Fender.

Personally, I think that the overall quality of this guitar is really comparable with the Squier Classic Vibe Jazz Bass. If you really want to heave a Fender logo on the headstock, you should probably stick to this model. But if you’re okay with using a Squier, the CV Jazz Bass will work just fine.

Still, this is an amazing bass guitar which can be used for a lot of different styles of music. I have no hesitation in recommending this bass to all guitarists who are serious about becoming a great bass player.

Here’s the demo.

Summary

Undoubtedly, the Bronco Bass is a really interesting guitar suitable for a lot of guitarists out there. I have no hesitation in recommending this model to anyone who wants to start their journey as a bass player. Considering its price, it’s definitely worth it!
