If you’re wondering if Squier 40th Anniversary Jazzmaster is worth it or not, you’ve come to the right place! In today’s review, we’re going to take a very close look on this brand new guitar. I recently bought this guitar for myself and I feel like I’m in a good spot to share some of my thoughts with you.
The truth is that this new Jazzmaster is an absolutely amazing guitar. It sounds fantastic and it’s actually one of the best looking guitar that I’ve ever seen!
Let’s dive deeper with research to find out what makes this guitar so special. Of course, you’ll be able to hear how it sounds, because I recorded a video review as well. All photos used in this post are mine too.
Why I Bought the Squier 40th Anniversary Jazzmaster?
I was really impressed when Fender announced new guitars from the 40th Anniversary Series. To be honest, I always loved Squier guitars – their gear is not too expensive and it features a high level of quality which is comparable with Mexican Fenders.
As a big lover of Jazzmasters, I had no hesitation to chose the new Squier 40th Anniversary Jazzmaster. And it turns out that it was a really good choice!
The guitar looks absolutely fantastic from the outside – the combination of Olympic White color and golden pickguard is really elegant. If you’re familiar with the Squier J Mascis Jazzmaster, the 40th Anniversary model looks really similar. Still, the pickguard has a bit darker color and it features golden hardware as well.

When it comes to tone, it sounds like a classic Jazzmaster, so it’s perfect for indie, surf and alternative rock. The rhythm and lead circuits offer a lot of versatility, so you can use that guitar in pretty much any genre.
I recorded a video review and sound demo of this great guitar. Feel free to check it out and if you think that it’s helpful, make sure to subscribe to my YouTube channel – it will definitely help!
Specs & Pricing
The guitar features a lightweight poplar body and a very comfortable maple C-shaped neck. The guitar features the same pickups as used in the Classic Vibe series – Fender-Alnico single-coils. The golden hardware and vintage-style tuners make this guitar look absolutely beautiful.
There is something really cool about the combination of that white color with golden hardware. It looks more expensive than it actually is. What’s interesting, the guitar features the Pearloid inlay blocks, which are not too common among the other Jazzmasters.
When it comes to pricing, it’s not cheap. In fact, it’s one of the most expensive Indonesian-made Squiers available on the market right now. Still, in my opinion it’s totally worth it.
Who Is It For?
I think that this Squier will be ideal for both amateur and more advanced guitarists. The guitar sounds absolutely fantastic, it stays in tune and it looks awesome too. It’s not a cheap guitar, but it’s definitely one of the best Squier guitars out there.
In addition, it’s a really versatile instrument, so it can be used for an extremely wide range of genres. Two Fender-Alnico single-coil pickups offer a lot of versatility when it comes to tone and they offer a great sound on both clean and distorted channels.
Whether you’re into indie, rock, blues or jazz – I highly recommend checking out this offset axe. You won’t be disappointed, that’s for sure!

Wait a minute.. Where’s the catch?
I bought this guitar a few days ago, so I’m not sure how well it’s going to perform over a long period of time. But so far I haven’t experienced any issues and I’m absolutely happy with its quality.
The main disadvantage of my Squier was the string action – it was way too high. I needed to adjust it to make it more comfortable to play. On the other hand, it happens in the vast majority of guitars.
Some guitarists reported that guitars from Classic Vibe Series (especially Jaguars and Jazzmasters) had problems with staying in tune after using tremolo. But I haven’t experienced that issue so far on my axe, so there’s a high chance that Squier resolved that issue in the factory.
Another disadvantage may be the price – it’s quite high, especially when you think about the fact that it’s manufactured in Indonesia. Still, it’s a brand new model, so it obviously has to be more expensive than other Squier guitars.
40th Anniversary Series vs Classic Vibe
If you’re wondering which series of guitars is better – 40th Anniversary or Classic Vibe, here’s the truth: there’s no good answer.
I think that the 40th Anniversary Series offers a similar quality when it comes to tone and attention to detail. It seems that these guitars are on the same level.
Nevertheless, the 40th Anniversary models offer more interesting designs, so if you care about the look of your guitar, you should definitely check them out. In my opinion, if you have to budget to choose one of these guitars rather than the Classic Vibe guitars, you should definitely do it.
