In today’s article, we’re going to highlight one of the best offset electric guitars for the money – Squier Classic Vibe 60’s Mustang. Since we recently covered another great axe from this series of guitars – Squier Classic Vibe Jaguar – I thought that it’d be great to focus on the Mustang as well.
For those who don’t know, the Classic Vibe Series by Squier offers an extremely good quality at a reasonable and affordable price. The CV guitars may not be the cheapest on the market, but they are a great choice for both beginner and intermediate guitarists. In addition, they all look awesome – especially the Squier Classic Vibe 60’s Mustang!
Before we dive deeper with research about this guitar, feel free to check out the detailed specifications and latest pricing of this guitar on Amazon.
Here’s five good reasons why you should add this Squier Mustang to your collection! As a massive fan of offset and vintage guitars, I feel obliged to share my thoughts and recommendations with you.
Reason #1 – It Sounds Awesome
The quality of tone is one of the biggest advantages of this guitar. It’s warm, punchy and vintage – and it’s a perfect combination. In addition, it sounds cool on both dirty and clean channels.
You can hear it for yourself. Here’s a quick demo of this Mustang:
Whether you’re looking for an awesome dirty tone for fatter riffs or a clear clean tone for slower ballads, the Squier Classic Vibe 60s Mustang can do it all. The versatility of sound in this guitar is really amazing!
I think that this guitar will be particularly good for all people who are into indie and alternative rock. The sound of this guitar reminds me of such bands like Pixies, Kings Of Leon, The 1975 or Nirvana. If you’re digging this kind of music, the Squier Mustang should be a great and safe choice.
As a lover of indie rock, I can totally recommend this guitar for this genre. Once you combine it with some reverb of chorus pedals, you’ll be able to achieve a really unique and classic indie tone. Especially when you combine it with the tremolo, you’ll get a really surfy sound.
Reason #2 – It Looks Awesome
If you’re an enthusiast of offset guitars like me, you have to admit the Squier Classic Vibe ’60s Mustang looks awesome. The guitar is available in two different colors – Sonic Blue and Vintage White with a red shell pickguard.
The attention to detail in these guitars is awesome. On top of that, the vintage-tinted gloss finish on the neck adds a lot of character to this axe. Undoubtedly, this guitar makes a stunning first impression. If you’re playing in a band, you’ll definitely get a lot of jealous looks once you show up with this Mustang on stage.
Reason #3 – It’s Affordable
In terms of pricing, the Squier Classic Vibe 60s Mustang is a really affordable guitar. Although it’s one of the more expensive Squier guitars, it’s far better than other Squiers from Bullet or Affinity series.
In my opinion, the Classic Vibe series is on the same level as Fender Player series, which is made in Mexico. I had the pleasure to compare these guitars in real life and I liked the CV model more.
As a result, this Mustang tends to be one of the most affordable offset guitars on the market right now. It will be really tough to beat its quality and this price level – that’s for sure.
Reason #4 – It Has That Vintage Tone And Feel
As I mentioned before, the Classic Vibe series is awesome in general – that includes Classic Vibe Stratocasters, Telecasters, Jaguars and Jazzmasters as well. All of these guitars are inspired by legendary Fender guitars from the ’50s, ’60s and ’70s and they all feature that unique, vintage feel.
Where does that feeling come from? Well, there are a few things that boost the retro authenticity of these guitars. That includes: designed Alnico pickups, vintage-tinted gloss neck finish, C-shaped neck and a nickel-plated hardware.
As a result, playing on Classic Vibe guitars feels a little bit like traveling back in time. It’s really uncommon to get this kind of feel from guitars at this price level. Vintage guitars can cost even thousands of dollars, so in this case the overall value is simply exceptional. Out of my experience, no other major brand offers guitars like that at this price.
Reason #5 – Approved By The Best
Mustang is an absolutely iconic guitar. Not many people know that it was frequently used by some of the most talented guitarists and musicians of all time. The guitar was particularly used by indie rock and grunge musicians. That includes:
- Kurt Cobain (Nirvana)
- John Frusciante (Red Hot Chili Peppers)
- Adrian Belew (Frank Zappa)
- Frank Black (Pixies)
- Bilinda Butcher (My Bloody Valentine)
- Matt Healy (The 1975)
- and many, many more!
If you’d like to read the full story of Mustang guitars, here’s a great article on the official site of Fender. The first prototype was introduced in 1950s and it was initially a student model with a vibrato. Although the Mustang was changing throughout the years, current models follow the tradition and they’re really similar to the most famous Mustangs from the 60’s. Same with the Squier Classic Vibe!
Where Are Squier Classic Vibe Mustangs Made?
The Squier guitars from the Classic Vibe series are currently made in Indonesia. Many people believe that guitars manufactured in Asia are not worth it, but I totally disagree with that statement. It’s a complete myth! The Squier Classic Vibe Mustang is the greatest example of that. Out of my experience and based on reviews I found online, most people agree that the Classic Vibe series features an exceptional quality.
Other Offset Guitars
Squier has two different offset guitars available in the offer – the Classic Vibe Jaguar and the Classic Vibe Jazzmaster. As you can imagine, both of these guitars are equally awesome. There are slight differences in body shape and tone, but they sound really good too.
