If you’re wondering if Fender Mini Deluxe MD20 is a good amp or not, don’t worry – you’ve come to the right review! In today’s blog post, I’m going to take a very close look on that amplifier to see if it’s worth it or not. Surely, it’s one of the most popular mini amps in the world, but is it actually that good?

The truth is that Fender Mini Deluxe is one of the coolest and most affordable small amps available on the market right now. It’s not the best sounding amp in the world, but it’s really cheap and it’s more than enough for home practice. It can be used efficiently by both amateur and more advanced guitarists.

Let’s dive deeper with research to find out what exactly makes the Fender Mini Deluxe amp so interesting. Firstly, we’ll have a look at the specs and the main advantages of that tiny thing. Of course, there will also be a sound demo included as well! In addition, we’ll also see if there are any alternative options for guitarists with a slightly bigger budget.

Hopefully, today’s review will help you to find out whether Fender Mini Deluxe is a good amp for you or not.

Specs & Pricing

Fender MD20 Mini Deluxe is a portable amp which features 1 Watt of Power and a single 2″ speaker. You may think that it’s not too much and I have to admit that you’re right – it’s not powerful. Still, it’s more than enough for practicing at home! In addition, since it’s battery-powered, you can take it anywhere with you.

The amp is pretty basic, so it’s really easy to use. There are only three knobs that allow you to control your guitar tone: volume, tone and drive. Additionally, the MD20 Mini Deluxe model also has a headphone out, so you can easily practice with your headhones without making too much noise.

The sound of Fender MD20 Mini Deluxe may not be the best, but in the end it’s just a small budget amp. It will never replace a large a tube combo, but it works perfectly for warm ups or practice sessions. And to be honest, it sounds surprisingly good, especially when you think about its price and small size!

It is also worth mentioning that the amp looks fantastic from the outside as well. It’s available in two color versions – red and black. Both of these models have a very cool, vintage look. If you’re into this kind of vibe, you’ll definitely enjoy it!

When it comes to pricing, it’s one of the cheapest compact amps available on the market right now. Considering the low price, the MD20 amp definitely stands out from the competition. It will be really tough to beat that at this price level.

Here’s the sound demo.

Who Is It For?

Fender MD20 Mini Deluxe can be used by both beginner and more intermediate guitarists. The truth is that all-level guitarists can benefit from using this particular model. It’s cheap and it does the job – who needs anything else?

Since it’s a very versatile amp, it can be used for a lot of different genres. Whether you’re into country, blues, rock or metal and you just want to practice, this tiny amp won’t disappoint you.

It is also worth mentioning that it’s one of the cheapest mini amps out there, so it’s definitely suitable for guitarists on a low budget. If you don’t want to spend too much on a new gear and you need to find a good and reliable practice amp, the Mini Deluxe model should be a great choice.

Disadvantages Of Fender Mini Deluxe Amp

Although Fender Mini Deluxe is generally a great amp, it’s not the best amp in the world. There’s few things that you should be aware of before getting it for yourself. Here’s a few main disadvantages of this amp:

  • it sounds basic
  • you’ll have to get your own batteries, because it comes without any power supply
  • it’s not loud enough for rehearsals with a band
  • it is not the best option for recordings either

Still, this amp is not designed for rehearsals and recordings. Fender Mini Deluxe is designed for practicing (ideally in a small room). So if that’s what you’re searching for, these disadvantages won’t even affect you!

Are There Any Alternatives?

If you don’t like the look or the sound of Fender Mini Deluxe, don’t worry – there’s a few other affordable options out there too. Of course, it all depends on your budget and what exactly are you searching for.

alternative amps

Firstly, I highly recommend checking out the Fishman Pro-LBT-500 amplifier. It’s way bigger than the Mini Deluxe amp, but it sounds absolutely amazing. It’s perfect for more advanced musicians who are searching for a reliable amp for gigging. On the other hand, it tends to be quite expensive.

Alternatively, you can also check out the Marshall MG10. It’s a cheap and great sounding solid state amp suitable for home practice. The main advantage of that model is that it features two separate channels, so it allows you to easily switch between clean and more distorted tones. I often use that amp for home practice and I have to admit that it works perfectly!

Lastly, if your budget is a bit higher and you’re searching for a great and reliable amp that will last you for years to come, you should definitely check out the Peavey Classic 30. This is one of my favorite tube amps of all time. It sounds fantastic and it works amazingly with guitar pedals as well. And what’s more, you can use it for home practice, recordings and gigging!

Still, Fender Mini Deluxe is a very cool and cheap amp anyway. So if you’re searching for a budget amp for home practice, you don’t need to search for any other models – it will be more than enough. I have no hesitation in recommending the MD20 model to any guitarist who’s searching for a great compact guitar amplifier.

As you can see, Fender Mini Deluxe is a really cool compact amplifier. Perhaps it’s not ideal, but it does the job very well and it’s surprisingly cheap. That being said, it will be really tough to beat that quality at this price level. It’s definitely one of the best budget amps that you can find on the market.
