Specs & Pricing

fender jim root telecaster review

Fender Jim Root Telecaster is a signature model of one of the most famous metal guitarists of all time – Jim Root (Slipknot). This axe exceeds all the expectations and it has everything that you potentially need – a powerful tone, a stunning look and a very comfortable feel.

What makes this guitar so special? Well, the guitar features a mahogany body, a comfortable maple neck and an easy-playing ebony fretboard. This is a big advantage, because it allows you to play really fast without getting tired. There’s also a six-saddle strings-through body hardtail bridge which guarantees a superb tuning stability.

The manufacturer decided to equip this guitar with a pair of high quality humbuckers which are designed for powerful riffs:

  • EMG 60 Humbucker (neck)
  • EMG 61 Humbucker (bridge)

Both of these pickups sound equally amazing, so you can be sure that this tone will blow you away.

What’s important, this Fender Tele comes with an included hardshell case. This is a really big advantage, because it saves you a lot of time. On top of that, it offers a very high level of protection – it’s a well made black tweed cash with red-plush interior.

It is also worth mentioning that the Jim Root Tele looks fantastic from the outside too. There’s something really unique about that look – the white body paired with black hardware looks absolutely beautiful. In addition, the matching headstock makes this guitar look even better!

When it comes to pricing, it’s a pretty expensive guitar. Just like any other model from Fender’s Artist Series, it’s not that cheap. However, considering how good it actually is, it’s definitely worth the money. It’s just one-of-a-kind!

Here’s the sound demo – feel free to check it out below. Sounds amazing, right?

Who Is It For?

Fender Jim Root Telecaster is suitable for guitarists of all levels. It doesn’t really matter whether you’re an intermediate guitarist or not – you will definitely see and appreciate the high quality of that model.

However, due to the fact that this is a pretty expensive guitar, it is most often used by advanced and professional guitarists.

As I mentioned before, the EMG pickups used in that model give you access to a really wide range of tones. This kind of tone is perfect for rock and metal, so if you love these genres, this guitar will be a good fit for you.

Of course, the Jim Root Signature Tele is also perfect for any fans of that famous guitarist. If you love his work and you love Slipknot, you will most definitely love that killer axe as well.

Overall, I’m positive that the vast majority of guitar players will really enjoy playing on that guitar. It’s not a cheap model, but if you’re a fan of Jim Root and you want to play on his signature model, it probably doesn’t even matter. What a guitar!

Here’s an another sound demo.

Are There Any Disadvantages?

Just like any other guitar available on the market, the Jim Root Signature Tele has its own advantages and disadvantages. But the truth is that it’s really tough to find any major cons of that axe.

In my opinion, the biggest disadvantage of that Telecaster is the relatively high price. It’s significantly more expensive than Mexican-made Teles.

But on the other hand, no other Tele by Fender is the same as this signature model. So I totally understand why this guitar is not cheap.

Overall, the advantages of that model outweigh its disadvantages. Apart from the price, there’s just not much to complain about!

Cheaper Alternatives

If you don’t like the sound of Fender Jim Root Telecaster or you simply can’t afford it right now, that’s not a huge problem! There’s still quite a lot of other really good electric guitars suitable for rock and metal. Of course, it all depends on your personal preferences and most importantly, your budget.

Here’s a few more fantastic guitars that are also worth checking out.

cheaper alternatives

Firstly, you should definitely consider getting the Fender Player Telecaster HH. This is a really special guitar – it’s unlike any other regular Tele. In my opinion, it’s a very underrated axe. Not many people are aware of how good it actually is! On top of that, it’s a bit more affordable than the Jim Root Tele.

If you’re searching for something a bit cheaper and you don’t necessarily need it to be one of the Fender guitars, check out the Squier Affinity Telecaster. I’m a huge fan of the whole Affinity Series – these guitars offer an absolutely amazing quality. No matter whether you’re a beginner or a more intermediate player, this will be an excellent fit for you.

Also, if you’re looking for your first electric guitar, choosing the Harley Benton TE-52 can also be a really good choice. Of course, it will never be as good as the Fender Jim Root Telecaster, but it’s a perfect option for beginners. In fact, it’s one of the cheapest Telecasters available on the market right now!
