What’s interesting, they both cost pretty much the same. They are also equally amazing, although there are some things that differentiate them. In addition, the guitars are suitable for either beginner musicians or intermediate players. Let’s have a closer look at each one of them. Fender CD 60SCE
If you’ve seen my other articles, you probably know that I’m a massive fan of Fender guitars. For those who don’t know, I own a few of their guitars, for example this Jazzmaster. Their guitars never disappointed me, even after years of playing either at home or in front of people. Hence, I think that this guitar is an absolutely perfect choice for any guitarist. Whether you’re a beginner or a pro, you’re going to be satisfied.
Top Quality Materials
The American manufacturer decided to use a combination of a solid spruce top with a mahogany back and sides. As a result, the guitar is really durable. The strength and brightness of spruce wood mixed with the warmth of mahogany results with an amazing, versatile and clear sound. On top of that, the guitar features an easy-to-play mahogany neck with comfortably rolled edges. Undoubtedly, the quality of used materials significantly impacts the overall tone and feeling of this guitar. And although the guitars should never be about the look, this model looks simply fantastic. Well done, Fender!
Fishman Preamp
The guitar features the Fishman Preamp which comes with a toner. Sometimes acoustic-electric guitars tend to lose their magic once plugged in. This time it’s not the case. These electronics will allow you to amplify the guitar without compromising your tone. What’s more, the preamp has a built-in tuner. You won’t have to waste your money for additional accessories. Great, right?
Amazing Tone
Fender CD 60SCE sounds really amazing. There’s no doubt with that. The guitar offers a really versatile, warm and resonant sound. Certainly, it will be perfect for strumming, fingerpicking and fingerstyle guitar. In my opinion, that tone fits a really wide variety of genres. Whether you’re into blues, rock or folk, you will be able to play it on this guitar. I highly recommend it to singer-songwriters and soloists. Yamaha FGX800C
This guitar offers similar quality at pretty much the same pricing. The Japanese manufacturer also did a fantastic job with this model. Great look, unique sound, top quality and affordable price – who needs anything else? Although in terms of appearance, I prefer the look of Fender. It might be just me, but I feel like Yamaha’s pickguard and bridge look a little bit less classy.
Top Quality Materials
Similarly as Fender, Yamaha FGX800C offers a solid spruce top. Although instead of a mahogany body and back, it features a mix of mahogany and nato Okoume wood. As a result, the guitar is really durable. This durability is a major advantage if you want to buy a guitar that’s going to last for ages. If you take a good care of this guitar, you will most likely be able to pass it to your grandchildren at some point of your life in the future. Spruce, mahogany and nato wood always indicate really long-lasting durability.
Great Looking Appearance
As I said before, although I prefer the look of Fender, I still believe that this guitar look really good. What’s more, this series it’s available in a few different color versions. We should never base our opinion on appearance, but the exceptional look of this instrument is definitely a fact. Nice job, Yamaha!
Unique Sound
In terms of sound, the guitar sounds absolutely fantastic. This is a result of Yamaha’s R&D division. From what I’ve heard, they developed some kind of acoustic analysis technology which apparently helps while manufacturing the guitar. In fact, the guitar features a newly developed bracing pattern. Hence, this affects not only durability but the overall sound of the guitar. It sounds really natural and resonant. What’s more, it features an under-saddle piezo pickup of really good overall quality. Once you plug it in, it won’t lose its classic acoustic sound. If you played the videos above, you have to admit that both instruments sound equally amazing. I have to say that I’m particularly impressed by the Fender guitar. Although it might be just my subjective opinion. I’m a huge fan of Fender guitars and I actually own a few of their models. Their quality never fails. But don’t get me wrong – Yamaha is amazing too.
